Kite Collectibles moving with the Wind

Kite Collectibles moving with the WindSome of us may think that kites are just toys or subjects of time pass but there are some who take kites seriously. They not only design some of the most unusual kites but are even more than ready to pay a hefty sum to buy them from the retail market.

The fact that people with a bent for collecting kites may also have the hobby of colleting other kite collectibles like postcards, old images, and advertising pieces is something that surely brings smiles on faces who have always admired kite flying.

From PostBulletin.com:

“I got the idea to wear the tuxedo from my parent, who worked for Byerly’s grocery store giving demos,” he says. “On the store’s 25th anniversary, all the demonstrators wore tuxedos. People do react to the tuxedo in a positive way so I decided I needed one to fly kites in and it was awesome. The only time I don’t wear the tuxedo is when I wear the Uncle Sam costume for special patriotic events.”

Christensen points out that people who enjoy collecting kites might also enjoy collecting other kite collectibles such as old pictures, postcards and advertising pieces depicting kites, and even old kite string. Some of these items, especially the postcards, may sell for up to $85 at online auctions, Christensen says.

“I have some old paper kites from the ’50s,” he says. “I have over 1,000 kites in my collection that vary in size from a half-inch to over 500 square feet, and a dragon that is 450 feet long. I also have a small collection of kite books, kite pictures and a ton of newspaper clippings from my own kite flies.”
